Upon hearing that they'd taken on a new hand at the Rest, we couldn't resist going to try it out. The initial rumours we heard were that he was the worst cook who'd ever graced Ithrons Green Lands, and it was lucky that there weren't more graves filled by him. But word has it that he took lessons with a Mr Casey Rybeck, who owns a cafe over in Sintel, and I can atest to this reporter stilll being alive.
When I first entered the Rest I was greeted by a most ungodly snoring eminating from behind the bar. A handily placed bell on the bar soon stopped it, but I do wonder how often this must happen for them to have had to put a bell on the bar to wake him up with. To his credit the man roused quickly and set to serving with an energy not normally seen in one so soon arisen.
The food was served with a haste which convinced me that it was not freshly cooked - which worried me slightly given the apparent quietness of the pub. I can but assume that either there is much waste, or that the food was not even freshly made that day. He followed my instuctions closely, and well - but I was most distincitve in what I asked for, had I not been I fear the quality may have been much inferior.
The fare was plain, and filling - well suited to a resting place for travellers on their long journeys, who have not much care for what they eat, so long as it is warm and filling. As a place to visit for a special meal, I do not think it suitable, unless any meal is preceeded by the large amounts of alcohol which are available, and easily obtained thanks to their cheap prices, the only purpose of which this reporter can find is to inebriate the customers so their senses are sufficiently dulled prior to the meal.
