At dusk, a horse and rider rides rapidly towards Foj's old house.
ALong with several saddlebags, attached to the saddle is a shovel. The rider is wearing a dark travelling cloak, but underneath there is the glimmer of a yellow robe.
As it approaches the house, the rider slides down, tethering the horse to a nearby tree.
Withdrawing the shovel he goes to stand by the entrance to the house. Then, facing away he takes a dozen purposeful and carefully measured strides. These strides take him to the base of a felled tree. From there he turns left at ninety degrees and takes another twenty one steps, bringing him next to a small bolder quite close to the lake.
He takes one step to the left of it, then begins to dig. |

After working throughout much of the night, resting briefly inside the cottage and digging a very deep hole, George pauses, gets out of the hole and takes a critical look back at the cottage.
With a small sigh he steps to the other side of the bolder and begins digging again.
After a few minutes he unearths a small box. Taking from it a few small squares of paper he stashes it within his robe.
He shreds the paper, and places it in a small pile. Then sets fire to it in the traditional Georgian way, finally gathering the ashes and hurling them into the lake.
He then sets to filling in the holes. |
