...and head up the embankment along the road leading to the fortified and ribbon decorated ruin. Vau holds Crystal's hand lightly, not leading, not supporting but merely maintaining contact as he strolls at a uncharacteristically relaxed pace through the dew of the spring day.

*Crystal releases Vau's hand as they get to the ruin and goes to tug one of the more damp and bedraggled ribbons off a stake, cheap dye rubbing off on her fingers.*

Looks a bit worn out now. Will have to think of something else to brighten this place up. I wonder if that militiaman will make it to Tesrae? I don't like the idea of press-ganging people, shouldn't have to fight unless they want to.

*Vau inspects the water sodden stakes and tests the fire hardened points with grim satisfaction.*

Could ask *rrrrr* Grandfather if want bright colours. *growl* He make patches of mud and dirt on walls of hut and in *rrrrr* then he put seed in and grow flowers out of walls. *rrr* He say can tell what day is by pattern of colours around hut.

Point was that they didn't want to join the militia. Someone had got them really drunk then slipped a crown in their pocket and told them they'd joined. That's not fair.

*Crystal considers the ruin with a smile*

I think flowers might be the answer, it would look very pretty. Have to be stuff that doesn't need looking after though, since I'm sometimes not here for days at a time.

Thank you for making that for me by the way. Reminds me that we will have to try and get some blessed shrines for Tesrae.

And some plants are kind of delicate, so they need looking after or they die. My grandmother used to have a flower from... Mithim I think, called an orchid. They have to grow for five years before they'll flower, but hers died in a few months.

I meant from the point of view of the scenery. I wasn't factoring in my presence, since I probably won't stay around Tesrae forever. Not if I want to see the rest of Arda. And it would be nice to let something pretty grow up here instead of it all just falling down again.

*Vau disappears briefly into the ruin and returns holding a large hide which he spreads on the dew soaked ground in the sun.*

Not know when she come so *growl* rest now.

*Vau sits on the hide and places down a bag containing cold cuts of meat along with random vegetables and fruit apparently selected at random.*
